The original World Series held in 1903, was a best of nine affair. No World Series was held in 1904 and the best of seven series was used until 1919. The five-of-nine format was used from 1919 through 1921, but it reverted back to a best-of-seven series in 1922. That is the same format used today. The American League winners, versus the National League winners, in what is comonly known as the fall clasic. (season - team - AL/NL - (manager))
