Unless you've lived here a while and have the kind of friends that know everyone, its difficult to find fun places to go on weekend nights in San Jose. Try these fun hotspots and avoid the reggaetton!
| | The Pub (Escazu)- Relaxed, warm and friendly atmosphere. This place hosts an older crowd of expats, foreigners and locals alike, and has a nice selection of foreign beers to choose from. Good place for a date or a conversation. |
| | Oconnor's (Santa Ana)- Younger version of The Pub. They know how to make every shot known to man! |
| | The New Prive (Escazu)- Overpriced and a bit pretentious, this fancy club is a good place to go out dancing and show off your new hot girlfriend. Or your couture. |
| | El Observatorio (San Pedro)- listen to alternative music and look at great art. This place has a great mood for talking philosophy or just being indie in general. |
| | El Retrovisor (San Pedro)- Young, attractive crowd, cool design. Good place to hang out. |
| | Jazz Cafe (San Pedro)- THE best live music shows in town. Jazz, soul, blues, rock- its young, hip and classy. Very in with the "indie" crowd. |
| | Vertigo (Paseo Colon)- THE BEST techno and electronica in CR! International Djs are brought in all the time, and this place gets packed with the savviest young people. Expensive, but well worth it. |
| | Area City (San Jose)- this place is the dirtiest and darkest underground place you can get. Great alternative music, lots of eccentric and interesting young people, cool ambient. And dirt cheap- dont get mugged, though! |
| | Torre Geko (Real Cariari)- Not a club per se, but this place ALWAYS has some huge event going on every weekend. They're usually packed, have great music and are a little upper class. Worth checking into. |
| | Oblique (Heredia)- This place is also a bit pretentious, but its always packed with young, attractive people. And theres ALWAYS people dancing. |
