Top 5 Most Ridiculous Weight Loss Methods Ever

Want to lose weight while eating what you want and doing no exercise at all? Me too! Too bad most of these methods are incredibly gross, harmful, or lethal...
| | The Tapeworm Diet: This may be a historical urban legend, but there are reports that in Victorian times, right up to the 30s, women (and some men) ate tapeworms to maintain their slim figure. Apparently, the eggs were packaged in a convenient little pill for easy digestion. There are ads from the time mentioning it, but I haven't found any that advertise the tapeworm pills directly. |
| | Colon Cleanse: While not specifically for weight loss, the numerous colon cleansing products on the market claim to treat everything from fatigue, migraines, heart disease, to weight problems. The real problem with these products is that you don't need a colon cleanse- eat enough fiber and you cleanse your own colon. Besides, your liver and kidneys are what detoxify the body. It's a waste of money. |
| | The Master Cleanse Diet: Consists of lemon water, cayan pepper, and pretty much nothing else. You loose weight because you ingest absolutely nothing else for days on end. Obviously not healthy, as there are no real nutrients in any of those ingredients and you are missing vital minerals and vitamins. Besides, your body needs protein to build muscle, otherwise you lose both fat and lean muscle. |
| | Vinegar: People swear that drinking various amounts of vinegar every day will help you shed the pounds. Other than being disgusting, if you drink too much vinegar (albeit you'd have to drink LOTS) you can damage your kidneys and feel nasty, not to mention alienating friends and family with your constant vinegar breath. |
| | All Salad Diet: Not really a diet per se, but many people replace their usual meals with salads when they start "watching their weight." While seemingly healthy, there are lots of pitfalls in the average American's idea of salad. For starters, iceberg lettuce has almost no nutritional value and is mostly water. The addition of a few carrot shreds and grape tomatoes doesn't add many more nutrients. Additionally, the half cup of salad dressing completely negates all of the calories you "saved" by not eating your typical meal. The average creamy Caesar dressing has 155 calories in 2 tablespoons. Most restaurants give you at least 4 tablespoons. |
