Assassination is the murder of a political figure or other important individual. An added distinction between assassination and other forms of killing is that an assassin usually has an ideological or political motivation, though many assassins (especially those who are not part of an organised movement) also show elements of insanity. Other motivations may be money (as in the case of a contract killing), revenge, or as a military operation.

1.	Harper's Ferry - A prelude to the Civil War, and it showed that slavery was more than just an economic issue but a moral issue that men were willing to die over white & black.
2.	Nazi Death Camps/ Nuremburg trials - So cold and cruel it speaks for itself. Goes 1,2 with slavery.
3.	President John F. Kennedy - JFK assasination full of popular conspiracy still discussed today.
4.	President Abraham Lincoln - If JFK isn't the most famous single assasination, Lincoln's at Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth is.
5.	O. J. Simpson Trial - The entire event, the white bronco, the trial, the event itself, feels like a made-for-TV movie. It gripped the hearts and minds of Americans for months.
6.	9/11 Tragedy - Could end up being the most influential event on the list, if not in American history.
7.	Columbine - Has completely changed how schools (and businesses for that matter) prepare for safety and emergencies.
8.	Ted Bundy's serial murders - Charming, attractive man on the surface and sick twisted individual underneathe.
9.	Jeffrey Daumer's serial murders - A man beyond crazy who can simply be defined by the fact he kept body parts in the refrigerator.
10.	Malcolm X - Unlike Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the police knew a day in advance exactly how the murder would happen as it was staged by the killers and they did nothing to even try to prevent it. The FBI may have plotted it by using Nation of Islam co-leaders. And it was done by his own race and religious sect.
11.	Martin Luther King Jr. - "I have a dream..." will live forever in American history (unfortunately a result of his death).
12.	President William McKinley - Some people may not even know he was killed, but important because Theodore Roosevelt became President as the result.
13.	Lee Harvey Oswald - The man who killed the man who killed JFK.
14.	Ngo Dinh Diem - The democratic leader of S. Vietnam, his assassination ruined American relations with Vietnam forever.
15.	Alexander Hamilton - Not truly an assassination, but a murder by Aaron Burr during a famous duel.
