Tags: how-to, chest, x-ray
This is a list of things to remember when taking a chest x-ray to help you produce quality results every time.
| | Talk to your patient and explain the position you need him/her to stand in one step at a time. Don't give too many instructions at once, it only confuses the patient. Give brief, one-line steps. |
| | Position the top of the film about 1.5 inches above the shoulder of female patients and about even with the top of the shoulder for most male patients. |
| | Stand back and look at the patient to ensure the patient is centered to the bucky grid. |
| | Touch and move the patient while explaining what you are doing to make sure the patient is properly centered and positioned. |
| | Position the x-ray tube so that the central ray enters about T7, just at the level of the inferior border of the scapula. |
| | Instruct your patient to take in a deep breath, exhale it completely out, take in another deep breath and hold it. |
| | Make your exposure and then process your high-quality film! |
