How to keep your computer purring
Do's/Don'ts

Just a few tips to keep your pc up and running smoothly!
| | Install antivirus program and keep current: Most people are aware they need an antivirus program, but some don't realize they need to keep it up-to-date as well. Not all antivirus programs have automatic updates. |
| | Install antispyware program and keep current: The main cause of unwanted pop-ups and computer lag is spyware. Having antispyware on your pc will usually alert you before these infections start. |
| | Download Microsoft Updates: Your pc will usually alert you when Microsoft releases patches for your operating system. These patches are usually security-related and help keep viruses and spyware out, or fix other bugs. |
| | Avoid untrusted sites and P2P software: Make sure you trust a link or an ad before you click on it. Spyware is caused by the user's browsing habits, so be weary of clicking on everything you see. Also, P2P software is a "free for all," meaning you can download music and movies, but often these are viruses in disguise. |
| | Defragment: Your hard drive is like a filing cabinet. Defragging your pc will sort all the files out so it can access the files easier in the future. |
| | Have a "tune up" annually: While following these tips will help your pc run smoothly, sometimes there are tweaks and advanced tools that the pros have to offer to make sure your pc is running at its maximum performance. |
