BESTS

When you feel you deserve a break from all the hassles in the world, here is a list of shows that will be a good way to waste some time and brain cells. American Idol, Entertainment Tonight and more . . .
| 1. | American Idol: Who hasn't dreamt of becoming a "superstar"? I know I have so many times during the day that I wish if I had Simon standing next to me every time I sang a song to myself, something I made up or singing along to the radio while I'm driving, I would go for it. But I think I'm too old -- almost 32 years old. I guess I could try to dress younger and pretend I don't have a husband and 3 children to take care of. And if Simon didn't like what I was singing, he could put his hand over my mouth and tell me to "shut up". And if he really got fed up with my annoying voice, he could just leave the room. I think it would be fun to argue with Simon -- he with his British accent and mine with whatever accent I come up with at the time. It is really difficult for me to understand English or British accents. So we might just get along fine. My husband thinks that Simon is a nicer person than I am. I guess we'll have to find out one of these days, if I ever get to Hollywood or | | 2. | Entertainment Tonight? Ahhh. The joys of living. Who wouldn't want to live like a celebrity and be chased by cameras and videographers all day long? And just to have a baby, get millions of dollars for photos of the newborn? Wow! Too bad, I am very far from the red carpet unless maybe I become "famous" somehow. This show is great if the "gossip" is juicy but really, do we really care or do we just want to know that even celebrities have problems like we do, except their problems cost millions of dollars to fix. | | 3. | The TV Guide Channel. I like this channel. It makes me feel as though I have a lot of time and nothing to do. And that is the point of TV, right? Reading the descriptions are funny sometimes because you would already know how the story goes and if you would be worthily foregoing your nap time by switching to that channel. | | 4. | News! I like news. It helps me "keep in touch" with reality and what's happening in my local neighborhoods. But you know the news is not news unless the reporters make a big fuss about something to drive some sort of frenzy. The weather is great too, but do they need to tell us that we have a downpour when we are already in the middle of it? What about the thunderstorms? They don't need to tell me that too. Maybe tell me where I should stand so I don't get struck by lightning. | | 5. | What about the murders, accidents or kidnappings on the news? We don't really get all the details until there is a special segment about them. Shouldn't we? The most memorable news that I saw was when the President and Nancy Pelosi announced their plan on how they were going to help alleviate the housing crises with homeowners defaulting and the mortgages going awry. I looked at them and thought "They have no idea what they are talking about and they don't have a clue on how to fix this problem." I know because I am a licensed real estate agent and they just don't know how this all happened or how to fix it. It is more involved and they don't have the experience or the knowledge to back-up their plans. By the way, the HOPE program is just that "hope" to people in trouble. But I must add, it's empty hope. It's best to talk to a licensed real estate agent who is not hungry for a buck right now to determine your best route. Know that "HOPE sucks", as my husband used to tell me a | | 6. | HGTV. Well, what should I say about this channel? Lots of informative programs, but there seems to be a lot of women contractors and "designers" who don't know what they are doing or talking about. I sometimes wondered if they were only models of the actual women contractors and they were hired to be in front of the camera because they were models. I have nothing against women because I am one, but it gets annoying to hear two women talking or squabbling about the best color for "the space". I'm also tired of hearing the word "space." Use another word. Property Virgins is a new show in the network and it seems to be okay, except I know from first-hand experience that real "property virgins" are not going to buy so easily. The design shows have good ideas but are misleading because they give the unaware consumers the false impression that they can actually do these things themselves by spending a few hours or a few days instead of weeks or months. The shows don't reveal how man |
