Looking to take some tips to get better at DDR? Well lookie here...

  •
  • A lot of the time DDR Players get caught up in trying to either impress their friends, someone they like, or be a crowd pleaser and can end up falling on their face if they don't have any practice. If you are new to DDR, and you like the concept of dancing and the exercise that comes with this game, the take note of these tips as you go forward.
  •
  • -The first that you should consider is your foot stance on the mats. DDR mats are designed for a simple box-step. so there are really on four basic directions you can move. The biggest mistake that most newbies make is that when they start out they limit themselves to moving just one foot at a time either up. down, left or right on the pad and they stay standing in the center. The best thing you can do for yourself is place your feet on the left and right arrows during a song and move around the center circle instead of standing stationary in it. You do not get extra points for returning to the center area as some have rumored. so don't worry about the center. Once you do this, it opens up your stance so you can reach multiple arrows around the mat a whole lot faster, and still keeps you centered in the box for the basic format. Although it may take a few songs to get used to this, the format will improve your dancing overall.
  •
  • -The next thing you want to do is explore the song lists in DDR. They are designed to have a variety of songs for different people, and some newer games have set lists for certain genres of songs already picked out in different game modes. Pick a song that fits you. You want to be comfortable while you are moving to the song, so it's not going to do any good to go with what someone else likes all the time. You want to be able to move with the steps and have fun with them! That's the whole point. Freestyle DDR players are masters at picking songs that they can go all out on, and especially use this talent for tournaments. So be sure to explore the songs thoroughly and pick the dance style and song that you can be comfortable enough with to experiment your dance style.

  • -Relax!!! I cannot say this tip enough. So many dancers have lost their cool with this game because they do not know how to chill out. Either they worry too much about their score or their stamina, or the modifications on the song that they can't have fun with it. In the end-the extras don't matter. What does matter is that you can relax your muscles and have fun with the song! If you are tense at all it will show up in your dance style, and that can affect your score if you are worrying too much, like most score and freestyle players do. Breathe. Take a moment and roll your shoulders back. get all the kinks out of your fingers and toes. Just take a second to chillax and enjoy the game!

  • -Practice. Yes yes I know it's an old staple. But practice is a serious commodity in this game. It will not help to want to do a song on Heavy mode with X2 speed to show off-if you have never played it before... IT DOES NOT WORK. I have tried it, and chances are you will fail miserably. Take your time, and practice the songs you idolize. Both guys and girls have certain adept qualities for this game. So practice can be your best weapon here. The more you know the steps to the song, the more you can show off later.
