Shopping for the Right Knitting Tools
INFORMATIVE
Tags: knitting, knitting needles, how-to, shopping, fun hobbies
Okay, so you want to start knitting but shopping for the right tools can be intimidating. Here's a short list to get you started on your way to knitting nirvana!
| | A great learn-to-knit book - there's plenty out there, find one that explains it well to you. One recommendation is, "The Knit Stitch," by Sally Melville. |
| | A good pair of wooden or bamboo needles. Try size 8, 10, or 11 to start. Bamboo or wood is great for beginners because the yarn doesn't slip off the needle as easily as metal or plastic needles. |
| | Worsted weight wool yarn. The yarn label should say, "worsted." This is the most common yarn weight and easy for beginners - not too fine, not too thick. Wool yarn is forgiving and can be shaped easily, please spend an extra few dollars for 100% wool yarn. |
| | A crochet hook. Try to find one roughly the size of your knitting needles. A crochet hook will help you pick up those pesky dropped stitches. |
| | Finally, don't forget your patience! Knitting takes practice, practice, and more practice. If you're getting frustrated, put down your needles and yarn and pick them up when you are more relaxed. |
