Some Home Coffee Roasting Tips
TIPS
Tags: coffee, roasting, home, latte, espresso, first crack, second crack
I've been roasting my own coffee for about 2 years. Here are some tips for the beginner.
| | Don't rely solely on a roaster's timer. (there are many things that can affect a roast from day to day. The length of time is not a sufficient indication of degree of roast) |
| | Use a clean power source. |
| | It's all in the beans (even the most expertly roasted coffee can be downright undrinkable if the beans aren't of good quality to begin with. Good coffee is as much about the bean as it is about the roast) |
| | Try varying levels of roast with the same bean variety. (It's amazing how many different flavors can show up. At a light roast you might taste carmel, and at a darker roast you might tase chocolate.) |
| | Listen to the beans (they will tell you when they are ready) |
