The Five Best Neo-Beatles Musicians Out There Right Now
FAVORITES
Tags: beatles, musicians, pop, rock
Neo-Beatlism is a phrase I might have made up myself, but I think it's accurate termonology for the indie pop movement that's most directly influenced by the Beatles. These artists have honed the important skills of simple melodies, complex harmonies, classic chord progressions worked in different ways, and play with quirky sounds (ala Revolver.) Here are the five I recommend you go out and buy tomorrow.
| 1. | Aimee Mann: Try "Lost in Space" or the soundtrack to "Magnolia" |
| 2. | Michael Penn, any and all. |
| 3. | Elliott Smithwas a genius. I enjoy "Figure 8" |
| 4. | Richard Swift, "Dressed Uo For the Letdown" Check out the piano! |
| 5. | Jon Brion!! Go get the soundtracks for "Punch Drunk Love" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" |
