Top 5 Comic Books From Vertigo Comics
BESTS
Tags: comics, vertigo, best, y the last man, northlanders, fables, pride of baghdad, american virgin
This is just a list of my favorite five books from Vertigo comics, with a little bit as to why. Descending order. Enjoy.
| | Y: the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan is by far the best comic book I have ever read. I was not all that impressed with the final issue, but the story of Yorick and his friends was an amazing five year journey that you can now have in one day if you're voracious enough. |
| | Fables by Bill Willingham, Lan Medina, and Steve Leiahola is also an amazing title wherein the characters from various fairy tales are modernized and exiled from their place in the world, their stories are amusing, interesting, and sometimes very touching. I enjoy this series quite a bit. |
| | American Virgin by Steven T. Seagle, Becky Cloonan, and Christine Norrie follows the journey of a religious celebrity sworn to be celibate til marriage and the loss of his fiance and "soulmate." this title really surprised me. I thought it was going to be some kind of pervy sex digest, but it was a very gripping read. |
| | Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon is based on a true story and details the adventures of a "pride" of lions who escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during the initial US Bombing of Iraq. This is another book I expected to be a little bit ehh... but with Vaughan behind the pencil I should have known better. |
| | Northlanders by Brian Wood and Davide Gianfelice is thus far the story of Sven a Norseman who escaped his village only to return after his cruel and vicious uncle took the throne that was his birthright. This is a gritty tale of dark ages vengeance. I highly recommend it, and with only six or seven issues out at the time of this writing, easy to get caught up on. |
