Cartoon movies that make the adults cry. Why do they do this to us??? Disney is the worst offender, but they don't come in first place. Listed from 10-1.
| | Toy Story 1 & 2: Ever since watching these movies, I've made sure all my children's toys get equal love. When Jessie recounts how she was abandoned by her owner when she became too old to play with dolls, we all felt the pain of having the one you love no longer need you. |
| | Lady and the Tramp. Admit it. You thought Trusty was dead. And you cried. You also wanted to kill the stupid aunt for sending the Tramp off to the pound when he was just trying to protect the baby. |
| | Beauty and the Beast. The first animated movie to be nominated for an Academy Award gave us a storyline and romance that even adults could get into. The musical score and sweeping scenes are breathtaking. I've never been so happy for the girl to finally get the prince. She's the only deserving one of the bunch. |
| | The Fox and the Hound. Think Romeo and Juliet with animals...and without the romance. Two loving friends destined to be apart for the rest of their lives. Is there anything more depressing in life? |
| | Finding Nemo. The first scene of the movie is about a mother and her babies being eaten by a fish. Need I say more? The ensuing quest by the father fish to find his lost son is enough to bring any parent to tears. |
| | The Lion King. Not only does the father's death punch you in the gut, but the amazing opening scene with the animal's trek to Pride Pock is awe inspiring and moves me to tears every time I watch it! |
| | Dumbo. So, so, sooo depressing. Cannot watch it. I honestly think Walt was going through some issues (remember the drunk scene?) when he created this one. |
| | Bambi. The most famous death scene that we never saw. Bambi loses his mother and is left on the care of his father who he didn't even know! Couldn't Thumper's parents have taken him in? |
| | An American Tail. This dabble into animation by Steven Spielberg gave us one of the saddest stories written for the big screen: a little mouse separated from his family, who are all just trying to survive in a new land. The window scene (featuring the song "Somewhere Out There", which was a huge commercial hit) is heart wrenching. |
| | The Land Before Time. Poor Little Foot loses his mother a-la Bambi, but we actually see her lifeless body, and the music is written simply to tug on our heart strings. Depressing, and yet somehow riveting! |
