Ways to Pass the Time in Door County

As the resident of a family condo in Door County, I know what it's like to go there and be bored out of my mind. It seems that once you've seen the sites, you don't need to see them again. Ever. Therefore you can officially lock yourself indoors and pout until someone takes you home. I say wrong. Here are some things you can do to pass the time and maybe (dare I suggest it) enjoy yourself.
| | Go go carting: I loovvveee go carting. How can you not? Going 30 mph around the same track over and over again is addicting. But really, with the added pleasure of potentially hitting a wall or even another driver, it really is a lot of fun. Plus there's the load motor that boosts your energy 80%. Plus in Sister Bay, the go cart place is also home to mini golf, baseball cages, and a game room where you can waste all of your change and get the worst prize imaginable. You'll return home with a proud heart. | | | Rent a Boat: I'm not much of a boater, myself. Actually, I really dislike the whole tubing and wake boarding and water skiing scene and all that. However, I will tolerate rented boats, mainly because no one will let you rent anything that goes over 5 mph. It is also quite pleasant to go out on the water, bring a book, shoot some pictures... draw some pictures. My family and I frequently played 20 questions and had some fun chats. If you are all on bad terms however.... eh.. | | | Steal Golf Balls: That's right, this is becoming an increasingly popular sport. If you have access to a golf course, you can head out and start lurking. If you don't have access, then you'll just have to trespass. Stealing golf balls is an art. It is comprised of ducking behind trees, running, and occasionally army crawling on the ground. If you happen to be spotted by the golfer of whom you are stealing from, you will probably be yelled at or chased, which will ultimately add to the excitement. At least you won't be bored. | | | Give the Grave a Life: I'm not suggesting bringing people back from the dead. That's just creepy. However, there are quite a few cemeteries lying around Door County, and if you happen to land upon one, it can be pleasant to walk around it. It sounds weird, but it can be fun to see the last names, the dates, etc. You can even 'give the grave life' by inventing a story for the... deceased. Really, it's more enjoyable than you may think. | | | Take Pictures: Though not everything in Door County is exactly spectacular, you could easily spend hours taking pictures. Just make sure to view things from different perspectives, and you'll be sure to amuse yourself. Maybe become a secret agent and take pictures of your neighbors without them knowing. Or be a stalker... No, don't do that. If you don't have a camera, buy a disposable one. If you don't have money, get a job. | | | Eat: This is really the best thing about Door County. Eating. I mean really, just about every place I go to eat is to die for. If you don't agree, then I have no idea where you eat. But really, it's great. I would eat all the time if I could in Door County. But then I'd either get fat or throw up. However, it is possible to stretch out eating time. Eat slowly. Order late. Tell the waiter you didn't order what you really did order. Order something different. Carry on long conversations so that your family never leaves the table. You'll figure it out. |
