How to make meals that are healthier and more nutritious for you and your family.
| | Cut out the empty sides: instead of making tacos with fried corn tortilla shells, pile the toppings on a bed of lettuce. Make Thai Lettuce Wraps instead of traditional stir-fry over rice. Or serve sweet potatoes instead of white mashed potatoes. |
| | Use low sodium or low fat options: a no-brainer, but some of us are still using regular mayo or canned tomatoes with lots of added salt. Cut the sodium and fat where you can. |
| | Use frozen veggies: Although fresh vegetables are usually preferable, when they are out of season, frozen ones may actually have more nutritional value. |
| | Add some veggies: Make your meals more nutritious by adding vitamin rich foods. Throw a handful of spinach or shredded carrot to just about everything! |
| | Skip the dressings: use oil and vinegar instead of creamy dressings that are full of calories. For taco salads, skip the sour cream based dressing and add some plain salsa and lime. |
