Top 5 Emergency Items to Keep in Your Car

Tags: emergency, car, safety, top 5
Here are the top 5 items you need to keep in your car for emergencies:
| | A Blanket--whether you break down on a winter night, want to have an impromptu picnic, or have to transport messy cargo (or kids), you'll be glad you have a blanket in your car. | | | A Big Heavy Flashlight--This is important; it has to be a big, metal flashlight. The kind that run on 3 D batteries. Having a flashlight will come in handy when you have to pull over at night (to pee, check the engine, help another motorist, etc.). Having a BIG flashlight will come in handy if anyone creepy joins you on the side of the road at night. It packs a punch when aimed at the head. | | | Twine/String--Having a few dozen feet of twine coiled up in your glove box may seem silly, until you have to tie something to the hood of your car, tie your trunk closed, or drive through a snowstorm with broken windshield wipers. Trust me, you'll need it. | | | First Aid Kit--Don't go overboard here. You'll probably only ever need a few bandages and some antibiotic cream for minor mishaps during family outings. To save some cash, go to the dollar store and buy a box of bandages, some antiseptic, and some gauze. Keep it in a Tupperware container in your trunk. | | | A Lighter--No, the one that comes with your car doesn't count. Buy a pack of cheap Bic lighters at the gas station. This one will come in handy for real life-or-death emergencies, as well as cigarette/campfire/barbecue lighting emergencies. |
