| | VLADIMIR NABOKOV - Mostly known in America for his novel "Lolita." Earlier novels written in Russian, including Despair, Mary, and Invitation to a Beheading. |
| | NIKOLAI GOGOL - Collections of short stories and novellas, most notably "The Nose." A major influence on Nabokov's work. |
| | LEO TOLSTOY - Perhaps the first to come to mind. Penned the classics War and Peace and Anna Karenina. |
| | IVAN TURGENEV - Most famous novel being Fathers and Sons, also acclaimed short story/novella work, notably A Lear of the Steppes and First Love. |
| | FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY - Required in most high schools for Crime and Punishment, sometimes his Notes from Underground is assigned as well. |
