10 great rainy day projects for kids
ODDS & ENDS
Tags: Rainy Day, Crafts, Craft Projects, Kids
A few things that you can do to entertain the kids when they can't go outside. Most of the list does not require rain, but nothing on the list requires going outside.
| 1. | Teach them how to scrapbook. Make sure that you don't let them near the good photos, though! For younger children, have them arrange photographs in an album. This works best when they care about the people or events in the photos. |
| 2. | Make friendship bracelets with embroidery floss. Even boys will like this if you buy their favorite colors. |
| 3. | Help them make their own picture book by stapling pages together. They'll learn more about writing and have something sweet to remember later. |
| 4. | Find a great coloring book and color with them. Or let them color by themselves and show you the result. |
| 5. | Make masks together out of construction paper or foam, then play hide-and-seek while wearing the masks. You can even choose a certain room to be "safe." |
| 6. | Color a picture together, as a collaboration. For example, you could draw a face and a child could draw the hair. |
| 7. | Put on your favorite music, and ask your children to color what they think the music would look like. This encourages creativity and imagination. |
| 8. | Ask them what they think the world will be like when they grow up. Write down what they say and then help them put together things for a time capsule that they can open in five or ten years. |
| 9. | Read a favorite book--backwards! Read the last sentence first, then the second-to-last, and so on. See what still makes sense and what doesn't. |
| 10. | Use a oatmeal container or a cardboard box as a drum, and make up a song together. Try to find something that you can recycle or throw out after so that you don't have to listen to drumming any longer than you want. |
