PROs/CONs
Tags: Linux, Windows, Apple, Operating systems, PC's, Computers
Just about everyone has a computer, which is why I'm typing this and you're reading it. Years ago, most people used Windows from Microsoft as their PC operating system. What's an operating system? It's the software that "talks" to your computer's hardware and allows other software programs to run. Now, even more choices are available for your computer. Along with Windows (XP or Vista) we have Apple OSX and Linux. Of course each has it's pro's and con's. Here's a few quick hits on each one.
| | Windows is everywhere - a good thing when you need help or compatibility |
| | Windows has a lot of business applications - it's the standard in most companies |
| | Apple OSX is very easy to use - Apple prides itself on the user experience |
| | Apple has great multimedia software - photos, presentations and of course, iTunes |
| | Linux is free - free as in no cost to you or very little cost |
| | Need a linux application? - chances are someone somewhere has it for you for free |
| | Windows is big - it uses a lot of RAM (memory) and storage (disk space). Vista uses a lot of resources |
| | Apple OSX only runs on Apple hardware - if you don't have an Apple, you're out of luck |
| | You get what you pay for - Apple is expensive |
| | Linux is difficult to install and configure - not all users are techies! |
| | Need suport for Linux? - you'll probably need to search for it unless you buy a Linux distro (distribution) |
