Attention Motorists – Here are 11 tips that will save you gas and money
| 1. | Following the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance schedule to insure your vehicle is operating at maximum efficiency |
| 2. | Don’t Speed. Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. Each 5 mph over 60 equates to an additional 15 cents per gallon of gas |
| 3. | Avoid excessive acceleration – speeding, rapid acceleration and rapid braking waste gas and curb mileage by as much as 33% at highway speeds. |
| 4. | Use cruise control to help maintain a steady speed |
| 5. | Avoid excessive idling. If you are going to be stopped for more than 10 seconds, turn your engine off. EXCEPTION : If you are in traffic, ignore this tip! |
| 6. | Keep your suspension and chassis aligned and maintained. Avoids engine drag |
| 7. | Use your overdrive gear to lower engine speed. |
| 8. | Combine trips, car pool and plan ahead to cover shortest possible distances |
| 9. | Avoid packing items on top of the car. Creates wind resistance and can decrease fuel economy by 5% |
| 10. | Limit hauling heavy loads. An extra 100 lbs in the trunk of your vehicle can reduce fuel economy by 1% to 2% |
| 11. | Avoid “jack rabbit” starts and hard braking. This can improve gas mileage by as much as 5% |
