10 Best Places to Eat in Williamsburg, VA

These are our favorite places to get our grub on in Williamsburg, VA.

1. Green Leafe (Richmond Road near William & Mary) This is our favorite place to eat in Williamsburg. In fact, we like them so much that we got them to cater our wedding. There are two Green Leafes, one near the college (a bar) and one in New Town (a more posh bar that houses the catering department). The one we really like is the one near the college. Because of it's proximity to the school, we would recommend avoiding it during the high traffic drinking times (after 8 on weeknights and 7 on weekends) unless your into that kind of thing. The food is fantastic, inexpensive, and they have the best beer selection we've seen anywhere.
2. Ichiban (New Town) Our second favorite place to eat in Williamsburg. They have a great sushi bar and a really extensive Chinese/Japanese/Thai menu. There are a number of vegetarian options - and when don't mean two or maybe three if your willing to pick the bacon off - there are quite a few. We highly recommend the General Tao's Tofu - freakin' fantastic.
3. Cheese Shop (Merchant's Square) Over in Merchants Square in Colonial Williamsburg, the Cheese Shop sits above a wine seller (that we don't recommend.) Aside from the obvious cheese, they also sell gourmet items (aka fancy pants pasta and imported tapanades), and sandwiches with their infamous house dressing. All attempts to reverse engineer the "house" have failed. If you're feeling particularly thrifty you can do as the students do and buy a bag of bread ends, a pint of "house", and a bottle of beer and sit outside on the veranda. We also highly recommend their lentil sandwich and orzo salad.
4. La Tolteca (Richmond Road) Mexican food at its finest. Cheap, fast, and tasty - need we say more? Oh, and they have actual fried ice cream, not that fake rolled in crispy stuff crap, but actual ice cream that has taken a quick dip in the deep fryer. Mmmmm...
5. Corner Pocket (New Town) If your up for a game of pool, perhaps a burger, or some crazy good nachos we recommend the Corner Pocket in New Town. If you're a veggie, their menu is pretty limited, unless you don't mind picking the bacon off.
6. Food for Thought (Richmond Road) Kinda pricey (entrees range from $11-$19), but everyone loves this place. The first time we went we weren't impressed, we even told people not to go, but after they reformatted the menu we gave them another try. They impressed us. The food was good and imaginative. The decor is still stupid - the walls are covered in quotes, and not the fun kind, the kind second rate goth chick English majors post to make themselves look deep and well-read but that they actually don't understand or didn't bother to read the book the quote came from. Nevertheless, the food is actually good and worth what they charge.
7. Peking (Waller Mill Road) An exercise in excess - Peking Buffet the must see to believe Chinese/Japanese buffet with a Mongolian Barbecue that has been named "Best" in Williamsburg 16 years in a row. Aside from the usual buffet options they also have a vegetarian section, Japanese hibachi, sushi bar, Hong Kong dim-sum, Cantonese won ton and noodle soup section, appetizer section, pizza, salad bar, ice cream and desserts bars. All this glorious food is laid out for the taking for one low admission fee ($7.99 for Lunch and $10.99 for Dinner). Screw your cholesterol and stuff your self senseless.
8. J.M. Randalls (Longhill Road) It is an awesome blues bar, with great food. Fair warning, like many great blues bars this place is SMOKEY. Despite the haze, we haven't heard a bad act there yet. Our menu pick is the Irish Nachos. They're nachos made out of waffle cut fries. Skip the chili on them, you won't miss it and they'll be easier to eat.
9. Hog Wild Smoke House (Rt. 60 - Norge) This is the best barbecue in Williamsburg, hands down. They have great hot sauces, and whom ever is running the pit obviously cares about good food.
10. Chenello's Pizza (Richmond Road) Cheap, tasty, fast delivery at it's finest. It's not the best pizza in town, but if you're not looking for anything fancy, Chenello's will get the job done at a rock bottom price.
