| | Goggles - to stop the salt stinging your eyes in the sea, but not necessary for rivers or lakes |
| | Swimming hat - a nice thick silicone one if it's cold |
| | Neoprene wetsuit, gloves and socks - essential in the cold unless fully acclimatised |
| | Big towel - for a vigorous rub down when you get out |
| | Warm winter hat - to keep your head warm after your swim |
| | Warm drink - to warm your hands on |
| | Renault Kangoo - to get changed in afterwards |
| | Hot tub - for special occasions and get-togethers |
| | 'Waterlog' by Roger Deakin - for inspiration |
