Mobile sources generate various forms of harmful air pollution. The combustion of fuels can cause the release of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, toxics, sulfur dioxide, and green house gases (e.g. carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide) All of these forms of pollution have detrimental effects on the environment and the population. Therefore, it is important to find ways to reduce them.
