Top 10 Best Movies of 2010

If you know me, and you've read my all-time top 100 list, you know that the "best" movies aren't necessarily the highest critically reviewed, biggest box office, award winning films. The "best" films are those films that you come out of the theater saying "I am buying that on DVD the day it comes out!" Or "want to go see that again tomorrow?" The best films are the ones you catch on HBO or TBS and even though it's already an hour into the film you still can't change the channel. The best films are the ones you HAVE to show guests who've never seen it before. These are the films you need to see:
| 1. | Inception - Let me preface this by saying I am a huge fan of Leo (yes, we are even on a first name basis) and Chris Nolan (and yes, I call him "Chris" for short), but Inception, a movie about a world where technology exists to enter the mind through dreams, is THE film of the summer, and firmly places Nolan and DiCaprio at the pinnacle of their respective professions. |
| 2. | The Social Network - Under David Fincher's direction (Se7en), Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake star in this film about the founders of Facebook, and do so brilliantly. Like it or not, The Social Network is the obvious front-runner for the Best Picture Academy Award this year. |
| 3. | Toy Story 3 - Rare in the world of movie sequels and especially in the world of movie trilogies, Toy Story 3 may actually be the best of the bunch, blending comedy, adventure and story-telling perfectly in this imaginary, animated world. |
| 4. | The Town - The Town is the story based on a Hammet Prize winning book (an award for crime writing) about four plotting men in Boston under the watchful eye of an FBI agent and is Affleck's 2nd directorial homerun in 2 at bats. |
| 5. | Black Swan - Natalie Portman is the mysterious "black swan" in this psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet where competition is brewing with a new dancer in the company, Mila Kunis. |
| 6. | Animal Kingdom - This brilliant Australian cops and robbers drama staring Guy Pearce is so perfect it'll make you wish you lived in Australia and were best friends with this Guy. |
| 7. | True Grit - A late entry in the Best Picture race, True Grit, starring Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, is one of the Coen Brothers best films. And 13-year-old Hailee Steinfeld, who plays a stubborn young woman trying to track down her father's murderer, steals every scene she is in, despite the talent next to her onscreen. |
| 8. | Get Him to the Greek - Jonah Hill and Russell Brand (both from Forgetting Sarah Marshall) hysterically re-unite in this Judd Apatow film about a record company intern with two days to drag an uncooperative rock legend to Hollywood for a comeback concert. |
| 9. | 127 Hours - James Franco is the infamous outdoorsman Aron Ralston who famously got trapped under a boulder while on one of his solo adventures - and whether or not you know the ending you will be completely moved, shocked and thrilled by the finale. |
| 10. | The Fighter - Christian Bale is the trainer of boxing brother Mark Wahlberg, aka "Irish" Micky Ward, who is just about to go pro during the early 1980s. Like the boxer he portrays, Wahlberg is a longshot at Best Actor awards this year, but deservingly worth at least a nomination as his skinny co-star Bale steals scene after scene, and round after round, as per usual. |
