Beer Can Chicken can be made on your outside grill (with top closed, partial venting) or the oven. In either case, it's a good idea to place a drip pan underneath the chicken to prevent fire flareups.
You will need the following ingredients. Beer in a can, a chicken (4 or 5 pounds) olive oil, rosemary, thyme, Crazy Salt or salt, garlic and pepper (preferably ground) Excellent dish for parties
| | First, buy a 12 pack or more of your favorite beer (or my favorite beer if you are inviting me over) |
| | Crucial to have enough beer to last for for an hour to an hour and half. |
| | Drink 1/4 of the beer inventory, savoring same and put the rest on ice |
| | Gather your ingredients. |
| | Wash hands, then wash chicken, then wash hands again |
| | Dry chicken with paper towel or your t shirt |
| | Drink beer |
| | Rub olive oil on chicken. Wash hands |
| | Open a beer can and push it up the chickens hind side and place it on your pan (for oven or grill top). Be sure to open the beer can |
| | Drink beer |
| | Preheat grill or oven (if oven at about 350%. For grill, best results are with a two burner grill using indirect heat (ie turn one side of burners on, then put chicken with can up butt on the side without the lit burners. |
| | Shake and rub on spices |
| | Drink beer |
| | Close grill, or put in oven |
| | Check on it periodically (every 15 minutes) and after an hour begin taking the chicken temp using a meat thermometer. Cooked temp is 165 to 175 degrees.Takes about an hour to hour and half. |
| | Drink beer. If drunk by now, give chef hat, apron and spatula to a sober person. |
| | When complete, remove chicken BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with Beer Can full of hot steaming beer. if you drop it on yourself or others, it will burn you or them or both. That will ruin your appetite and perhaps your dinner party. |
| | Sneak bite or two. |
| | Turn off oven or grill. |
| | Let chicken cool and serve |
| | Eat chicken, drink beer |
