INFORMATIVE
Tags: streptococcal infection, streptococcus bacterium, Streptococcus pyogenes, chickenpox, cellulitis, diabetes, treatments
If you have a strep infection, your health care provider will prescribe an antibiotic. This will help reduce symptoms, and after 24 hours of taking the medicine, you will no longer be able to spread the infection to others. Treatment will also reduce the chance of complications.
| | Treatment consists of penicillin (orally for 10 days; or a single intramuscular injection of penicillin G). Erythromycin is recommended for penicillin-allergic patients. |
| | Second-line antibiotics include amoxicillin, clindamycin, and oral cephalosporins. |
