Getting Down and Dirty: Gardening for Beginners
TIPS
Tags: Gardening, Vegetables, How To
Follow these basic concepts and you'll become a vegetable gardener extraordinaire.
| | Vegetables love the sun. They require at least six hours of sunlight each day. |
| | Vegetables must have good, loamy, well-drained soil. Your backyard soil is probably not good enough and will need some enrichment. |
| | Placement is everything. Plant your vegetable garden far enough from trees which will hoard nutrients through its root system. And close enough to your house to discourage wildlife from nibbling away your plants. |
| | Vegetables need at least one inch of water a week. |
| | Order seeds early. |
| | A good-sized beginner vegetable garden is 10 x 16 feet, and features crops that are easy to grow. |
