Appropriate antibiotic treatment is initiated immediately when there is a suspicion of Rocky Mountain spotted fever on the basis of clinical and epidemiological findings. Treatment should not be delayed until laboratory confirmation is obtained.

	Children with moderate or severe symptoms may need to be treated in a hospital and given intravenous antibiotics.
	Treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU) may also be necessary for abnormal bleeding or for complications that affect the brain, heart, lungs, liver, or kidneys.
