Still waiting for your toilet to flush? You may have a slow toilet and here is how you can fix it.

1. Figure out where the problem is. Fill a bucket or plastic trash can with a gallon or two of water and pour it quickly into the bowl. If it flushes quickly, the problem is with water delivery. If it flushes slowly, you probably have a clog. Use a plunger, plumber's snake, or closet augur to clear any obstructions. See the related article about unclogging a toilet.
2. For slow water delivery, first use a bowl brush to clean the bowl and get up under the rim. Then flush to remove chemicals. There are small holes under the rim that dispense water into the bowl. You are aiming to clean these of mineral deposits. Clear these holes with a pick, such as the bent end of a wire coat hanger. A small mirror will help you see these holes to clean them
3. Check to see whether the above approaches have worked before proceeding with the following, more drastic measures. If they have, you're done.
4. Purchase muriatic acid and follow the directions with caution. This stuff is extremely strong!
5. Turn off the water to toilet and flush. If you remove the water left in bowl the acid will clean the bowl to the bottom.
6. Take a trash bag and tape and cover the top portion of the bowl. The tighter the seal the better. Just cover the bowl portion, do not include the seat.
7. Open all windows in the bathroom and put on your gloves! If you have a fan, turn that on too.
8. Take off the tank cover and insert the funnel into the overflow tube. There may be a tube going to the overflow tube, carefully take it off.
9. Carefully pour acid into the tube. You will only need about 0.5 to 1 gal. Make sure to pour fast enough so the holes around the bowl where the acid flows to the bowl are contacted.
10. Cover the overflow tube with the sandwich bag and rubber band. Leave and close the bathroom door.
11. After 1 hour, remove the sandwich bag and replace the fill tube to the overflow tube. Turn on the water and flush a few times.
