How to Do Ballet Without Classes
HOW TO
Tags: Ballet, Ballet Class, Learning Ballet
You don't need to sign up for a class to learn the basics of ballet. Here is how you can do ballet without classes.
| 1. | Search the internet for moves and how to learn them. This is the easiest and cheapest way to become a great dancer. Also consider buying a book, DVD or video on the subject. |
| 2. | Find a suitable place to practice. You should have a lot of floor space. The best flooring is wood (but not well polished wood as this can be slippy). Carpetted floors can be tricky to do ballet on but can be used. Concrete flooring will ruin your knees if you do too much jumping/turning on it. Rosin (like violinists/baseball players use) can keep a slippery wooden floor from letting you fall. |
| 3. | Start by warming up with a selection of pilés (bends) and move onto more complex floor work. Use a balance aid. Hopefully, your website, book, video or DVD should give you some inspiration. Visual representation of the steps you are attempting are a must. The placement can be very tricky for something that looks simple. |
| 4. | Choose music. Ballet is dancing, the steps alone will not be that useful unless you learn to do them in rythm. |
| 5. | Begin with a balance aid and do the steps you have selected. |
| 6. | Repeat your steps without the aid of the balancing device (such as a chair with a high back or a portable barre). |
| 7. | If you are prepared (after some strecting perhaps) begin practicing big turns, jumps and other "fun" steps. |
