How to Choreograph a Dance
HOW TO
Tags: Choreograph, Dance, Dancing
Using dance to express yourself is incredibly rewarding. Choreographing allows you to express yourself further through dance and artistic movement. Below is how you can choreograph a dance.
| 1. | First you will need to select a style. There are hundreds of styles from folk to flamenco to hip-hop. |
| 2. | Next you'll need to choose a song that compliments your style. While slow songs work good for ballet, disco requires fast tunes. The song also needs to be easy to move to. Michael Jackson's songs for instance, are great for dancing. |
| 3. | Before I begin writing the routine, I compile a list of steps that I think would work for the chosen style and song. This approach might work for you. |
| 4. | Then, just start dancing! If you find a step that your happy with, write it down. |
| 5. | Get the basic outline of the footwork down, and then add details such as arm movements. |
| 6. | Practice your routine over and over, then make any last minute changes. Maybe even get input from other people. |
