How to Moon Walk
HOW TO
Tags: Moon Walk, Michael Jackson, Dancing
Take it back with this classic dance move that is always in style.
| 1. | Learn how to walk without actually moving. To do this, you must be on a flat and smooth surface and in an open area. |
| 2. | Place your right foot flat on the ground in front of your body. Place your left foot directly beneath your body, with all of your weight on the foot. The left heel must be flat. This will be the starting position. |
| 3. | Slide your right foot back so it is in line with your left foot. Be sure to keep it flat at all times. It should just glide across the floor. As the right foot is sliding back, lift left heel off the ground as far as possible. This should leave just your toes on the ground. It is important to bend left knee as the left heel lifts up. Practice this in spot a few times. |
| 4. | Transition over to the left foot. To do this, place all of your weight onto the right foot. Move left foot in front of your body, so that it is now where the right foot started. |
| 5. | Repeat steps 3 and 4. Become comfortable with this. |
| 6. | Move your arms from front to back slightly more exaggeratedly than with a normal walk. |
| 7. | You are now ready to start doing the official “Moon Walk." The biggest difference between this and what you previously learned is that when sliding the appropriate foot backwards, you need to make sure to move it past your body so that you will displace a distance with each step taken. Also, you will not place the corresponding foot out in front since it will automatically be in front. Make sure to switch your weight from foot to foot at each transition. |
| 8. | As an added bonus, jump into a spin. Pivot on your left heel and the ball of your right foot until your motion stops. Simultaneously, step out with your left foot, fling your right arm out to the side, and grab your crotch while making a high pitched scream. Again this is merely for show, and is not needed to properly “Moon Walk." |
