INFORMATIVE
Tags: virus, computer, email, trojan, worm, internet
Computer viruses have been a plague on mankind since the dawn of the Internet Age. Here are the different types of viruses that you may or may not have encountered.
| | Boot sector viruses- Popular in the 80's, these viruses altered a CPU's boot sector |
| | Companion viruses- These viruses affected MS-DOS systems and created a filename similar to one in the users computer, but with a different extension. When the user tried to open the program without specifying the file extension, the system would open the virus. |
| | Email viruses- These viruses are transported through e-mail |
| | Logic bombs and time bombs- These viruses lie in wait for a certain catalyst to set the virus into action, such as The Friday the 13th Virus |
| | Macro viruses- These viruses lie in the scripting of Microsoft Word or Excel |
| | Sentinels- These viruses allow the virus creator to control other computers |
| | Trojan horses- These viruses claim to execute a benevolent action, but release a virus onto the system |
| | Worms- Not technically viruses, these programs copy themselves within a system without the need for a host file |
