You can’t stop Shingles; you can only hope to contain it.

There is no cure for shingles.

Severity and duration of an attack of shingles can be significantly reduced if you are treated immediately with antiviral drugs.

Antiviral drugs may also help stave off the painful after-effects.

Other treatments include painkillers, steroids, antidepressants and anti-seizure medicine

See your doctor as soon as possible, because antiviral medication is effective only if given early.

Do not scratch. This may increase the risk of bacterial infection and scarring. Antihistamines can relieve the itching.

Apply cool tap-water compresses to weeping blisters for 20 minutes several times a day to soothe and help dry the blisters

Keep the area clean with mild soap and water.

Application of petroleum jelly can aid in healing.
