The CDC (Center for Disease Control) regularly does a risk assessment survey of the large metro areas and below are the findings for the 2004 Columbus, Ohio MMSA compared to Ohio and the overall US:

| | A lower percentage of adults reporting doing no leisure time exercise or physical activity in the last 30 days |
| | A lower percentage of adults told by doctors that they have diabetes |
| | The number of adults aged 65 or older reporting not having a flu shot within the last 12 months was not reported. |
| | A higher percentage of adults reporting having smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their lifetime and currently smoke |
| | A higher percentage of adults reporting having five or more drinks on occasion, one or more time in the past month |
| | A higher percentage of adults reporting Body Mass Index greater than or equal to 30.0 |
