10 Simple Tips To Help You Stash Away Thousands

Couldn't we all use a couple thousand in our accounts? Ever wonder how the rich get rich. Well, here are some great tips on stashing away some cash for those rainy days.

1. Always pad your accounts. This can be done whether you use financial software or balance your check book by hand. The idea is that you write yourself a check for however much you want the bad to be (the check does not need to actually exist) but the software will treat it as an outstanding obligation and deduct it from your balance.
2. Where did all that change go? - Set aside certain denominations, such as fives or tens, whenever they make their way into your wallet.
3. Institute a family tax - One family had a piggy bank where each member of the family would deposit one dollar a day.
4. Save your reimbursements - Sometimes it can take weeks or even months to receive reimbursement for business expenses. When that money does arrive why not save it instead.
5. Realize your rebates - Save the money that you receive from the rebates of certain products you buy. After time these can really add up.
6. Round it up or down - One idea for those who balance their check books by hand is to add or subtract a few bucks from your transactions.
7. Fee yourself - In some checkbook registrars there is a "fee" column some people say that a good way to save is for example every 100 dollar you deposit you short the deposit by 10 dollars. This will help with reconciling at any time.
8. Saving raises - You lived just fine before you got that raise so why not save that extra cash for a rainy day.
9. Divide and conquer your paycheck - Decide on an amount to set aside for savings from your paycheck. This can really add up quickly.
10. Pay yourself last - Essentially don't change your spending just because you have extra money during some months. If you pay all your bills and there is still some cash left over, why not put it in your savings account.
