The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament has earned the nickname of "March Madness" for a reason.
| 1. | #11 VCU over #6 Duke (79-77) - The first upset of the tournament. VCU's Eric Maynor hit the winning shot with 1.8 seconds left against Duke. |
| 2. | #4 Maryland over #13 Davidson (82-70) - The final score doesn't tell the entire story. Davidson actually led throughout much of the game, including an 8 point lead in the first half. |
| 3. | #9 Xavier over #8 BYU (79-77) - The only other close game from opening day of the tournament. |
| 4. | #1 Ohio State over #9 Xavier (78-71) - OT thriller between two Ohio teams that share having had Thad Matta as coach. The fact that it was played only 80 miles South of Xavier added to the vigor. |
| 5. | #5 Butler beats #4 Maryland (62-59) - Former NCAA champs under Gary Williams fall to a lesser regarded but very dangerous team. |
| 6. | #3 Texas A&M Beasts # 6 Louisville (72-69) - Many folks were whispering that Louisville would win it all. But playing what was almost a home game they got outscored by 3 points in the second half, which was the diference. |
| 7. | #5 Tennessee over #4 Virginia (77-74) - Two offensive powerhouses forced to play some D. The team leading at the end of the first half by 3 was losing by the same amount at the end of the game. |
| 8. | #1 Ohio State over #5 Tennessee - Down 19 at the half, the Buckeyes came back to win. |
