Slavery wasn't the only reason the Civil War began, here are some other influences that led to the war between the United States' Northern Union and Southern Confederacy.
| | Tariff - The South seceded after President Lincoln raised the Tariff to its highest level, he was seen as a man who was anti-South in every way (mostly by supporting New England industry). |
| | Centralization Versus States' Rights - The North wanted to move the nation into Democracy while the South wanted to be a Republic. |
| | Christianity Versus Secular Humanism - There were far more athiests, agnostics and all-together scientific thinkers in the North than there were in the mostly Christian South. |
| | Cultural Differences - Southerners were primarily of Western English (original Britons),Scottish, and Irish (Celtic) backgrounds; whereas Northerners tended to be of Anglo-Saxon and Danish (Viking) backgrounds. There was already thousands of years of turmoiled history between the varying cultures. |
| | Control of Western Territories - Anti-slavery laws in the new states told the South the weren't welcome. |
| | The South's Resources - The Northern industries needed the South's resources. |
