The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred in the United States, above the state of Florida, at 11:39 a.m. EST on January 28, 1986, when the Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated 73 seconds into its flight after an O-ring seal in its right solid rocket booster failed.

	I remember watching the Challenger explosion with my small kids and trying to explain to them what was going on. Now I work in dam safety and there are lots of lessons to learn from the Challenger.
	I was in a school setting, and the teacher couldn't stop class, but he or she told us about the incident, we stopped and prayed, and then we moved on. Later we got to watch replays on TV, and it was surreal.
	I was walking into the lounge of our college ROTC building. It was uniform day and one of the higher ranking cadets was sitting next to his girlfriend. They were listening to the radio and had stunned looks on their faces. This particular guy usually had a cocky smirk on his face so I know it was something serious when I saw him. Then I heard the news. I was going into the Air Force and the shuttle was our dream machine.

	The Challenger blew up while I was in high school. I remember trying to rig an attenna on our cable-less school TV to view it.
	I was in Florida when the space shuttle Columbia exploded. My wife had just awakened and was taking a shower. I was still in bed. We thought that a train had derailed or that an oil well had exploded. We were horrified to learn what had really happened.
