When it comes to the NFL Draft, these are 10 common theories that aren't always true. To read more, go to ESPN.com - Drafting is not an exact science, by Todd McShay (link is below).
| 1. | Offensive tackle is the safest position on which to use a high pick: Robert Gallery anyone |
| 2. | Don't waste a high pick on a tight end or safety: I bet teams would rather have Antonio Gates or Roy Williams right now than someone who is probably out of the league(Ryan Leaf) |
| 3. | If you need a franchise quarterback, get him in the first round or forget about: Tom Brady case in point |
| 4. | The best pick is the No. 1 overall pick: Akili Smith and Tim Couch wouldn't argue this point. |
| 5. | You can always find a good running back later in the draft |
| 6. | The farther away from the ball a player lines up, the easier his transition from college to the pros will be |
| 7. | Cornerbacks have been devalued with increased emphasis on the hand-chuck rule |
| 8. | Avoid Heisman-winning quarterbacks |
| 9. | Guards aren't worth taking with a first-round pick |
| 10. | Always choose the best available player, rather than drafting for need |
