Locked, Inviolable: Pure Hatred for iPhone
PROs/CONs
Tags: iPhone, Apple, telephone, new, problems
The iPhone is a multimedia and internet-enabled mobile phone announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during the keynote address at the Macworld Conference & Expo on 9 January 2007. Set to hit the market in June 2007, consumers are already raising issues with the new technology.
| | Feature Lock Down: iPhone runs its own platform. While called OSX, it bears little resemblance with Apple’s operating system. |
| | All changes restricted to Apple: No third party would be allowed to develop for the phone. |
| | Slow mobile data: the top speed you can get from it is about 100Kbit/s. |
| | Battery life sucks: Five hours of talk/browsing/email or 16 hours of audio playback. |
| | Built-in battery: doesn't have an easily user-replaceable battery. Batteries age pretty quickly, but who wants to send their phone back to Apple when it needs a new battery? |
| | Touch screen: small plastic keyboards on other mobiles are more likely to work reliably. |
| | Heavy data usage: either the service fees that go with the phone are going to be huge, or carriers are going to take a bath on data pricing and risk network congestion. |
| | Only a two megapixel camera: Sony Ericsson has had a 3.2 Megapixel cameraphone that's been out for months now. |
| | Proprietary tie-ins: iPhone can do push email but only for people who have a Yahoo webmail account. Bad luck if you prefer Gmail or some other mail provider. |
| | No video iChat: Apple has an incredible base of customers out there with integrated webcams, so what a missed opportunity. |
| | Apple chooses your mobile network: Apple has announced that its exclusive sales partner in the US will be the mobile network Cingular. |
| | Only 8GB storage |

Boooooo. Apple Sucks! Comment by: buccicone.2 Before you write an article, you should check your facts. 1.) The iPhone gives you FREE Yahoo! push email, but it can support any POP3 or IMAP email account. 2.) Apple went with Cingular because they were the only network that would change their network to except Virtual Voicemail. 3.) It only has a maximum of 8GB of storage because it uses flash memory to cut down on size and 4.) Since when are virtual keyboards unreliable. Most of them are awkward to use, but never unreliable.
