Interior design has become a hot profession in recent years, due in part, it seems, to the onslaught of television shows and other media dedicated solely to improving living and commercial spaces. The most successful interior designers share a certain set of qualities that separate them from the others. Can you think of any others?

1.	COLOR-BALANCING SKILLS: be able to match colors and understand how colors affect spatial perception and moods.
2.	COMMITMENT TO CLIENT SERVICES: have excellent client service skills and be committed to making the interior design process an easy one for the client. Be open to answering questions and developing a trusting relationship with clients.
3.	EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS: have excellent communication skills and communicate well with clients, vendors, and others involved in the process. Communication is important to ensure the work being performed is what the client is anticipating.
4.	FAMILIARITY WITH CODES: be familiar with building and electrical codes and keeps these regulations in mind when developing design plans.
5.	PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS: be able to quickly develop a solution when a problem arises and employ your creativity and organizational skills to generate the best alternative solutions and choose the most suitable.
6.	KNOWLEDGE OF FABRICS: be knowledgeable about fabrics integral to design, such as those used in upholstery and draperies.
7.	CREATIVITY: be able to easily generate new ideas for designs and be unique in what you offer your clients.
8.	SPACE-PLANNING SKILLS: be able to identify the most efficient way to arrange a space.
9.	STRONG COMPUTER SKILLS: be familiar with design software, such as AutoCAD.
