Technology: Gadgets You Need To Own
COOL
Tags: technology, gadget, cell phone, nintendo, iPod, nintendo wii, apple, laptop, computer, sony
CNET lists the hottest, and best, gear in technology right now. See what is shaking in the world of gadgets. There is something for everyone to love!
| | Nintendo Wii: The Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 may be the only boxes in town for hard-core gamers, but the Wii gets all the bonus points for mass appeal. Nintendo's generation-transcending console is in high demand, thanks to its revolutionary motion-sensing controller and fun titles. | | | iPod Nano (2nd generation, 8GB, black): It's been a while since we've seen an iPod on our Must-Have Gadgets list, but it's back with a vengeance. The second-generation iPod Nano has throwback looks (the iPod Mini-esque aluminum frame), a larger storage capacity (up to 8GB), an array of colors, and the same easy interface that iPod users know and love. Plus, if you buy the red Nano, $10 of your money goes toward fighting AIDS in Africa. Welcome back, iPod. You've earned it. | | | LG CU500 (Cingular): A phone this fast and feature-packed has no business being skinny. But still, the LG CU500 world phone manages to pack lightning-fast downloads and video streaming into a sleek, slim frame. Beefing up its feature set are a 1.3-megapixel camera, an SD memory slot, and an audio player with external controls. After all, aren't phones supposed to be fun? | | | SanDisk Sansa Connect: Behold the future of MP3 players. The great-looking Sansa Connect is Wi-Fi enabled, and it lets you stream Web radio and download tracks from Yahoo Music on the go. There's only 4GB of onboard storage, but the radio-streaming capabilities and expandable MicroSD slot give you serious options. We wish the Wi-Fi battery life was better, but we also hope the iPod is taking notes. | | | Apple MacBook with video: Gamers are better served by the Dell XPS M1710, but Apple's Editors' Choice-winning Core 2 Duo MacBook may offer the most laptop bang for the buck. The MacBook Pro's little sibling offers top-notch performance for the price ($1,099 to $1,499, depending on the configuration), the ability to run both Mac OS X and Windows XP, and, of course, Apple's ubiquitous sense of style. | | | Sling Media Slingbox A/V: Want to watch TiVo'd shows at a coffee shop, the ball game on a plane, or C-Span at a sports bar? All you need is a Windows XP laptop or Windows Mobile handheld, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a Slingbox. Of the three brand-new additions to the Slingbox lineup, we love the Slingbox A/V's $180 price tag and simple setup the best. | | | Nintendo DS Lite: Need a sleek portable gaming machine that won't break the bank and boasts a ton of great games? It's time to look past the Sony PSP. Nintendo's DS Lite may not have the PSP's multimedia features, but it sure makes up for it with an affordable price tag ($129), microphone- and Wi-Fi-enabled gameplay, fun games, and backward compatibility with most Game Boy Advance titles. | | | Panasonic TH-50PH9UK: We still give Sony's gorgeous KDS-R60XBR1 the nod in terms of image quality, but its $5,000 price tag is mighty intimidating. If you want the best plasma value for the money, Panasonic's 50-inch TH-50PH9UK is a no-brainer. Keep in mind that it's a bare-bones set: you'll need an external HDTV tuner, external speakers, and a stand for it. But it offers clean video and deep blacks, and it's a phenomenal deal at around $1,800. | | | Sony Handycam HDR-HC7 : True to the jack-of-all-trades tag, hybrid cameras normally do a "good enough" job on stills and video. If you don't mind carrying around a full-size camcorder, the Sony Handycam HDR-HC7 does a bang-up job on both. It shoots great HD video and satisfying 6.1-megapixel stills--it even comes with a flash for pics. However, the touch screen controls on the HDR-HC7 are a bit awkward. | | | V-Moda Bass Freq headphones: If you have a top-notch digital music/video player, you'll need some top-shelf headphones to go with it. V-Moda's Editors' Choice winners deliver great bass that belies their small size, and they're our pick for the best earbuds for less than $50. Of course, they're a great buy only if you like earbuds, but we've rounded up the best headphones of each type right here |
