Disappointingly Worst Sequels Ever
WORSTS
Tags: movies, worst, flops, sequels, trilogy
Seeing as the final chapters of trilogies are currently sweeping the box office, let's review the worst sequels in film to date. Some may do injustice to a solid original film, others may be tacked on additions to already awful films. Which one do you think is the worst?
| 1. | "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003)- I hate, hate, hate this film. The original was an awe-inspiring, groundbreaking thinker of a movie, and this sequel was nothing more than a cheap, tawdry action film that lacked any intelligence. Because of this film, I never bothered to see the third one. | | 2. | "The Godfather: Part III" (1990)- The universally understood example of "bad sequel". Thanks, Sofia. | | 3. | "Spider-Man 3" (2007)- I think the New York Observer said it best: "A movie so bad you can't even review it". This laughable mess is sure to go down as one of the worst sequels in cinema history. | | 4. | "Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace" (1999)- Jar Jar Binks got lost on his way to the set of Sesame Street, and the director decided to throw him in here. That was the first mistake. Second: Darth Maul. George Lucas knew how to make a green puppet named Yoda appear real, so why is the villain twenty years later in Halloween makeup? | | 5. | "Caddyshack II" (1988)- If you want to enjoy the first film, don't ever see this piece of shit. Like a virus, it can taint your memory with bad acting, bad dialogue and general Hollywood cheese. | | 6. | "Batman & Robin" (1997)- Clooney, we love you, but.... no. Just, no. The only thing worse than the storyline (or lack thereof) is the overabundance of puns and catchphrases ("Hell just froze over!", "The Iceman Cometh!") from Schwarzenegger's lovable Mr. Freeze. | | 7. | "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" (2007)- It's not out yet, I haven't seen it yet, but since the first one was horrible, it stands to reason that the sequel should increase in suckiness exponentially. | | 8. | "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" (2003)- Despite it's title, the first film was clever and well-written, and this wince-worthy sequel sought only to capitalize on it's acquired cult status almost ten years later. | | 9. | "Men in Black II" (2002)- This film has no plot, and the dull performances from usually strong actors such as Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Rosario Dawson leave the audience utterly blank. We don't even like the aliens in the film... and they're not even real. | | 10. | "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" (2005)- This sequel lacked positively everything that made the first one a successful romantic comedy, including acting skill on behalf of Sandra Bullock, whose likability can usually save even the most faltering of scripts. |
