House & McDreamy: Greatest TV Doctors

Tags: tv, sitcoms, television, doctor, hospital, grey's anatomy
Popular hospital-themed TV shows have kept us entertained fo decades, but still beg the question: whose the best TV doctor around? Here is a short list of favorites. Feel free to add more by clicking the "add to this wiki" button!
| | Dr. Doug Ross (portrayed by George Clooney) on "E.R": So compassionate, yet such a wild card. He kept audiences captivated with his salacious wit, rebel tendencies and of course, his dark good looks. Fans were delighted that he and Carol finally ended up together after their tumultuous relationship. | | | Dr.Quinn (portrayed by Jane Seymour) on "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman": A beautiful doctor must take care of her dead friend's three children in a small, western town in the 1800's... what could be better? She was a woman doctor in a time when it was unheard of, and faced every threat with courage and dignity. My favorite episode is the one where her and Sully are captured by the people poisoning the water with mercury. | | | Captain Hawkeye (portrayed by Alan Alda) on "M*A*S*H": Funny, sardonic, yet highly principled and humane. Alda plays his character with compassion, lending humor to even the most serious subject matter without being distasteful. Hawkeye provides much of this beloved show's emotional bloodline. | | | Dr. McDreamy (portrayed by Patrick Dempsey) on "Grey's Anatomy": His real name is Dr. Derek Shepherd, but fans and critics alike will always remember him as McDreamy. This sexy doctor with the jaded past and failed marriage is one of the most complicated of the Grey's cast. He handles every surgery and medical emergency with a cool head, in sharp contrast to Merideth Grey, who has a tendency to be emotionally involved in everything she does. Is their yin and yang dynamic a perfect match? | | | Dr. Gregory House (portrayed by Hugh Laurie) on "House, M.D".: He has been deemed a "misanthrope" and a "curmudgeon", but that's exactly what audiences love about him. This cranky, witty, edgy and oh-so-talented doctor operates with neither his head or his heart, but rather with a jaded skepticism of all his patients (and fellow doctors) that proves right every time. His addiction to painkillers, and the real reason behind his leg injury, add depth to his character and keep audiences guessing. | | | J.D. (portrayed by Zach Braff) on "Scrubs": "Scrubs" has a great ensemble cast, and every character contributes something special to the screwball comedy, but main character J.D. is what keeps audiences coming back week after week. Despite his exterior of humor, his character is at times scared and unsure of the world, be it the people around him or his profession. Played beautifully by the talented Zach Braff, J.D. transitions flawlessly from funny guy to insecure idealist. |
