Sand Volleyball Rules
Do's/Don'ts
Tags: beach, volleyball, sand, rules, illegal, hit
This is what you can and can't do when playing beach volleyball:
| 1. | The block counts as the first contact. |
| 2. | Open-hand dinks, where a player uses his or her finger tips to redirect the ball into the opponent's court, are illegal. |
| 3. | It is legal to cross under the net as long as doing so does not interfere with the opponents' attempt to play the ball. |
| 4. | Players are not required to rotate positions; they must alternate service, but there are no 'rotation errors'. |
| 5. | Most players, either by choice or by requirement of the rules, play the game barefoot. |
| 6. | A player may only have one toss per serve attempt. |
| 7. | The ball can be played with all parts of the body. |
| 8. | The ball is softer (lower internal pressure) and very slightly bigger than an indoor volleyball. |
| 9. | When digging a hard-driven spike it can be double-hit and momentarily lifted. Open hand digs are okay. |
| 10. | The server must clearly release or toss the ball before contacting it |
| 11. | The “let” serve is played. |
| 12. | Switch sides with opponent every 5 points in a game to 15 and every 4 points in a game to 11 to equalize the advantage of sun, wind, etc. |
