Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been criticized for being much darker than the previous films. It is rated PG-13 and IMDB provided the following information. Here's what parents should know before taking their child to the theater.
| | Sex & Nudity: There is a brief sensual kiss between Harry Potter and classmate Cho Chang. In certain parts of the movie, there are references to mild sexual innuendos. |

There is one scene in which Harry is shown writing out a punishment assignment and a sentence from the assignment is shown bloodily and painfully etching itself magically onto the back of his left hand. On a few occasions, Harry is depicted with a little blood and a scrape or two on his face. In the vision Harry has of himself as a snake biting Mr. Weasley, there is quite a lot of blood. Sirius Black appears in a few scenes with slight blood and cuts on his face. By the end, many of the major characters have scrapes and such on their faces. |
| | Profanity: A couple of uses of "bugger", "bloody" and a use of "tosspot". |
| | Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: None. |
| | Frightening/Intense Scenes: An initial nightmarish vision by Harry involves a frightening attack by Dementers on himself and his cousin. The "torture" scene could be intense. One of them involves a possible takeover of Harry's mind by Voldemort. In playing out this theme, there are several scenes involving sequences of rapid memory-like pictures that could be frightening to very small children. There are several scenes involving Voldemort that are both intense and frightening. The final scenes involve dark corridors with frightening and threatening creatures. |
