2007 is shaping up to be the year of the sports scandal. We have witnessed each respective sport deal with a scandal that has lowered the reputation of their leagues. Here is a list of the biggest sports scandals of 2007.

1. Tim Donaghy- NBA Referee Gambling Scandal: The implications of this scandal are enormous. If people who buy tickets to your sporting event can't believe in it's authenticity then you will soon have a broke league. This may rank up there with the Chicago baseball gambling scandal of 1919. All those fans who complained about the Phoenix Suns playoff game officiating seem to be vindicated as Donaghy was refereeing that game. Bill Simmons and Mark Cuban were talking about this problem years before this event happened. If changes don't happen in the NBA soon, we could see other sports pass it in popularity very soon. Here is the questionable calls that Donaghy and officials made in the Phoenix/San Antonio playoff game.
2. Barry Bonds- The tainted home run scandal: It's a sad state of affairs when one of the most hallowed records in sports is about to be broken and not even the commissioner of baseball is willing to attend the event. Such is the case with the Barry Bonds saga, who continues to defy the laws of physics with his unnatural growth. This scandal has ruined the records of America's favorite pastime.
3. Michael Vick- Dogfighting scandal: Vick's alleged association with one of the most disgusting acts of cruelty to animals spells trouble for the NFL which is gradually approaching an image problem with it's athletes. If it's not a Cincinnati Bengal getting arrested each week or love boat cruise in Minnesota, it's Micheal Vick ruining his chances of being a good role model for the sport. Fans will never be able to get behind Vick once they learn the details of the allegations that include drowning dogs and throwing them against wall till they eventually die.
4. UFC's Steroids Scandal: In case you haven't heard, UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca both tested positive for steroids and the California State Athletic Commission has suspended both fighters. What does this mean for the fastest growing sport? It means that they can't afford for their organization to turn into the WWE, where steroids are gradually ruining that form of entertainment. The UFC needs to nip this problem in the bud now so they don't face more serious problems down the road that could affect the growth of the sports.
