PEOPLE
Tags: ingmar bergman, director, film, swedish, trivia
Ingmar Bergman (July 14, 1918 – July 30, 2007) was a Swedish stage and film director. Ingmar Bergman found bleakness and despair as well as comedy and hope in his indelible explorations of the human condition. Here's what I know about the newly deceased film master; what do you know?
| | Son of a priest. |
| | Began his career early with a puppet theatre which he, his sister and their friends played with. |
| | Strictly professional he began writing in 1941. |
| | His first job was to save other, more famous, writers' poor scripts. |
| | Ingmar Bergman was CEO of the same theatre between 1963-66, where he hired almost every professional actor in Sweden. |
| | 1976 he had a famous tax problem. He left the country immediately and went to Germany. In 1982 he went back to Sweden and made his last movie 'Fanny and Alexander'. |
| | The director got around, he is the father of (at least) nine children. |
| | Like Fellini's "Fellinesque", he inspired the word "Bergmanesque". |

I find it amazing that he died on the same day as Michaelangelo Antonioni. Two film greats gone at the same time! :-( Comment by: buccicone.2 I find it amazing that he died on the same day as Michaelangelo Antonioni. Two film greats gone at the same time! :-( Comment by: buccicone.2
