New movies coming soon to theaters:

  •
  • Michael Clayton - October 12 - Director: Starring: George Clooney - Another lawyer drama starring George Clooney, but this time it's incredible. One of the best dramas this year with a riveting and entertaining enough plot to be watched again and again; also featuring an absolutely perfect final scene. Definitely suggested!
  •
  • Rendition - October 12 - Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal - This looks like it may be another strong Oscar contender from the director who already won a Foreign Language Oscar for Tsotsi in 2005. I've also got a feeling Reese Witherspoon may win another Oscar for this, or so I hope.
  •
  • We Own the Night - October 12 - Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, Robert Duvall, Eva Mendes - Could this be this year's Departed? It looks as exciting and perfectly crafted as Martin Scorsese's cop drama, with another twisted story and tragedy amidst. I just hope it lives up to everything the first trailer from Cannes made it out to be.
  •
  • 30 Days of Night - October 19 - Starring: Josh Hartnett - After the pretty damn exciting red band trailer, I'm convinced this is going to re-ignite the vampire genre. And after directing the indie hit Hard Candy last year, this is David Slade's next film, and he looks like he's going to pull off another amazing success.
  •
  • Gone, Baby, Gone - October 26 - Director: Ben Affleck | Starring: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris - Who thought Ben Affleck could both write and direct?! I may be jumping the gun here, but this looks like contender for Best Picture already! Or at least it will show that Affleck is much more capable as a director than an actor.
  •
  • Reservation Road - October 19 - Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Connelly, Mira Sorvino - Another strong drama that's going to be pushing for Oscar glory. Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo show some incredible chemistry in the trailer and it's going to be exciting to watch the tension boil over between these two fathers.
  •
  • Saw IV - October 26 - Starring: Tobin Bell - This franchise just won't die and neither will its villain Jigsaw! Nothing released so far has been too exciting yet, but with a new set of writers let's all hope this one turns out as good as or better than the previous three.
  •
  • American Gangster - November 2 - Director: Ridley Scott | Starring: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe - This looks like it'll be the strong contender for the best all-around mob drama this entire year. Ridley Scott is at it again but this time he may actually pull off another near masterpiece with two of the best actors in Hollywood.
  •
  • Bee Movie - November 2 - Starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger - As we near the point where everyone is getting burned out by endless CGI movies, this one seems to shine above the rest. For once a CGI movie that's not made by Pixar looks like it could actually be good.
  •
  • Lions for Lambs - November 9 - Director: Robert Redford | Starring: Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, Robert Redford - I'm not sure whether this will be good or not, but it's something to keep an eye on. Not only is it Tom Cruise's first film back as United Artist, but it's Robert Redford back again directing.
  •
  • No Country for Old Men - November 9 - Director: The Coen Brothers | Starring: Tommy Lee Jones - Hot damn this is going to be the little indie gem that could. The Coen Brothers are back in style with one hell of a drama on their hands featuring one hell of a freaky Javier Bardem and one hell of a stern Tommy Lee Jones. Interest? Also watch the new red band trailer.
  •
  • Southland Tales - November 9 - Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar - The next film from Donnie Darko writer/director Richard Kelly - an apocalyptic tale set in futuristic Los Angeles. I've been waiting a year to finally see this and now Kelly's had plenty of extra time to polish off his second filmmaking effort.
  •
  • Beowulf - November 16 - Director: Robert Zemeckis | Starring: Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins - The first real mainstream CGI film that's not for kids since Final Fantasy. Think Polar Express but based on the old English tale of Beowulf. Sound good yet? How about in 3D?
  •
  • Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium - November 16 - Starring: Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Jason Bateman - It's cute, heartwarming, and entertaining, like this year's Night at the Museum. Well, at least hopefully a lot better than Night at the Museum and with a better set of actors, including the quirky Dustin Hoffman and the gorgeous Natalie Portman!
  •
  • Hitman - November 21 - Starring: Timothy Olyphant - Who knows whether this will be a forgettable flop or a gigantic hit just yet, but it's got positive buzz building. Timothy Olyphant may not be the perfect Agent 47, but at least he'll pull off one hell of an exciting violence-filled show.
  •
  • Pathology - November 30 - It looks like the most disgusting and most intense psychological thriller coming out this fall. They always save the best for last and this will certainly live up to that cliche.
  •
  • The Savages - December 26 - Starring: Laura Linney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Philip Bosco - Another brilliant comedy from the depths of the Sundance Film Festival. The best performance I've seen from Philip Seymour Hoffman in years and Laura Linney looks better than she has in years. Not something you can miss, a must see!
  •
  • The Golden Compass - December 7 - Director: Chris Weitz | Starring: Nicole Kidman, Eva Green, Daniel Craig - New Line Cinema is pushing this as the next big Lord of the Rings-like franchise based off of books, but I don't think it's going to be that good. It has some potential to be entertaining, but that's it.
  •
  • Leatherheads - December 7 - Director: George Clooney | Starring: George Clooney, Renée Zellweger - You haven't heard of it yet, but you will soon - it's a football-based romantic comedy set in the 1920s. George Clooney is directing, John Krasinski is starring and I don't think you could ask for more out of a football film!
  •
  • Grace is Gone - December 7 - Starring: John Cusack, Alessandro Nivola - This won the Audience Award at Sundance, so that says something about how great it is. I didn't get a chance to see it there but I'm looking forward to seeing whether it's everything it's cracked up to be - a fantastic and emotional drama.
  •
  • I Am Legend - December 14 - Starring: Will Smith - The big winter action movie that is poised to take us by storm come this December. Will Smith stars as the last guy left on earth, or is he really the last guy? Or are their vampires waiting in the dark to scare the bejeezus out of us for two hours?
  •
  • Juno - December 14 - Starring: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman - The sweet sensibility of a teenage youngster getting pregnant and speaking more slang than you can decipher is portrayed with a perfect comedic undertone in Juno. This is a must-see, comedy-of-the-year indie film that has some Oscar-winning performances along with some of the most hilarious dialogue you'll ever hear. The trailer should sell you.
  •
  • National Treasure II: Book of Secrets - December 21 - Director: Jon Turteltaub | Starring: Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Ed Harris, Diane Kruger - Can you believe they decided to make a sequel? Like or not, they did, and this one will be as over-the-top (kidnap the president?!) and mind-numbingly entertaining as the first, guaranteed.
  •
  • The Bucket List - January 18 - Director: Rob Reiner | Starring: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman - Throw two old brilliant actors together in a comedy about fulfilling their last wishes before they die and you've got The Bucket List. Plus it's actor and filmmaker legend Rob Reiner returning to the directing chair - what more could you ask for?
  •
  • Aliens vs Predator: Requiem - December 25 - It was this damned new trailer that sparked my interest in this. If it weren't for Fox pulling their head out of their ass and realizing that a real AVP movie needs to be rated R to the max, then this wouldn't even be listed here.
  •
  • There Will Be Blood - December 26 - Director: Paul Thomas Anderson | Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis - Adapted from the Upton Sinclair novel "Oil!", this is supposedly the front runner for Best Actor thanks to Daniel Day-Lewis. A period piece that looks as thrilling and as entertaining as a blockbuster but as masterfully crafted as everything else the brilliant Paul Thomas Anderson has written and directed, which would be Boogie Nights and Magnolia.
  •
  • Sweeney Todd - January 11 - Director: Tim Burton | Starring: Johnny Depp,, Sacha Baron Cohen - A dark and twisted musical based off of a Broadway play starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton? I think that right there explains how incredible this could be and no more words will describe what a yet unseen trailer will itself.
  •
  • Run, Fatboy, Run - March 28, 2008 - Director: David Schwimmer | Starring: Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton, Hank Azaria - Directed by "Friends" star David Schwimmer and starring the one-and-only Simon Pegg - I don't think I need to say more to get everyone excited. It's quirky and has an odd story, but it looks like it'll pull quite a few laughs.
